2003 Connecticut Open H.S. Regatta
U.S. Coast Guard Academy
October 18 & 19, 2003
11 NESSA Schools competed against 5 from MASSA and 2 from MWISA making this a true intersectional event. A total of 18 races were sailed in all three divisions (2 FJ/420, 1 Laser). A and B Division sailed all triangle windward leeward courses while C division sailed a combination of triangle windward-leewards and triangles.
The first two were sailed in a very light dying Northerly which forced an early lunch break. After lunch a shifty Northwesterly that ranged from 3 to 7 knots. The breeze allowed A and B to knock out 7 races before the breeze
died while C was able to sail 8.
The breeze Sunday started like Saturdays and again faded forcing an early lunch break after 1 A/B race and 2 C races. After lunch a 5 - 12 knot Northeasterly filled in, but unfortunately the wind brought with it a
miserable cold drizzle. The sailing was great and allowed A/B to sail the remaining 8 races necessary to complete the rotation and C division had no problem knocking out the 6 they needed. The 50-degree temperatures and rain
forced some sailors to retire, but most of the fleet persevered.
