2003 NESSA Team Racing Championship (Mark Trophy)
University of Rhode Island (Salt Pond Bay) Regatta Report: Saturday: Started cold and overcast and ended up sunny and pleasant. Cold (40s) on the water, but nice on the leeside of the Island. Winds 12-15 kts from the Northeast. The sailors and the race committee did very well with the conditions. There were 5 protests heard that changed the result of one race. Sunday: Started cool, but warmed up to the high 60s. NE winds 5-7 kts, but good racing conditions. There was one protest, and the protested boat accepted a penalty that resulted in a change in the outcome of a race. St. George’s wrapped up the championship early in the day and Hotchkiss solidified second place after race #10, but the final qualifying spot came down to who-beat-whom in Race #12 (final race of the regatta) between Tabor and Falmouth.
Much thanks to Scott Norris (head coach at URI) and the URI Sailors who ran the races, and Judges Julie Hahnke, Scott Norris, and Tom Duggan. I apologies if I misspelled anyone’s name below. Some of the Race Participation forms were hard to read.
