Connecticut High School Sailing Championship

Sunday, June 6, 2004 - The Branford High School Sailing Team and their parent support group hosted the 2004 Connecticut High School Sailing Championship at the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club in Branford, CT. Sailors, racing two divisions (A and B) in Yale's 420s and one division in Lasers, had a gray day with a cool breeze from the north ranging 8-12 knots. 13 teams competed and a total of 28 races were sailed to determine the winners of the double-handed Norm Peck Trophy, the single-handed Dave Perry Trophy, and the overall USCGA Superintendent's Trophy.

Brunswick Academy entered all three divisions to win the overall state championship. Andrew Hotchkiss and crew Cam Bell finished 4th overall in A division, Ed Steinborn and crew Chris O'Reilly finished 3rd overall in B division, and Charlie Ill finished 2nd in the Laser division, after losing a tie-breaker to Taft's Harry Weyber IV.

Xavier's Clark Hayes and crew Tom Carpentier finished 2nd in A division to the dominating team from Greenwich High School, skipper Matt Naumann and crew Ben Schreff, who won 5 of the 7 A division races! Clark's older brother Clinton Hayes and crew Mario Solo won B division, and gave Xavier top honors in the combined double-handed competition.

Perry Trophy (Single-handed)
1. Harry Weyber IV, Taft, 28 points
2. Charlie Ill, Brunswick Academy, 28 points
